The future of Futureworks – Business, Innovation and Skills

Last week we attended a round-table event with the Minister of State for Universities, Science, Research and Innovation, Jo Johnson. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the impact of the new Higher Education and Research Bill on alternative providers such as ourselves, which is currently going through the House of Commons: See Here

It was a great meeting, and very useful – Jo Johnson is a very nice chap and took seriously the perspectives of the providers who were present.

“The meeting included a vigorous airing of the problems with the current Validation system, a discussion on the potential of accelerated and flexible delivery to underpin innovative new courses, and other measures necessary to ensure that students from all backgrounds have access to the widest range of courses possible. This round-table is just the latest milestone in a positive track record of enhanced engagement between the Government and the independent sector which has been facilitated by Independent HE.” – Alex Proudfoot, Independent H.E.

What happens next?
The Commons Public Bill Committee has now reported the Bill, as amended, to the House.
The Bill will next be considered at Report Stage, Legislative Grand Committee, and Third Reading over one day, on a date to be announced. We will keep you updated.
