We Welcome Back a Successful Graduate, Ben Cozens

Last week we welcomed one of our old graduates back to his homeland of Futureworks to speak to our 3rd year BAMP students. Since leaving Futureworks, the Freelance sound designer has gone on to work for BBC Bitesize, Cambridge Uni and now, Outpost VFX. His latest venture has been that of the galactic kind, (some might say he’s now a padawan to the Jedi Ben Burt) designing sound for Star Wars themed Battlquads which will be out for Christmas. Here’s a quote from Ben’s latest blog about the event…

Heading back to my roots…A long time ago in a city far away!

“Such a pleasure and honour to be invited back to my old college, Futureworks, Manchester, to speak to the BAMP students on my Star Wars sound design work for OutpostVFX. The Propel battledrones (https://www.propelsw.com) will be launched this Christmas and are set to take the galaxy by storm! #itsallaboutthebattle

Speaking to the 3rd year BA Music Production students gave me the wonderful opportunity to share my experiences within the industry since graduating from the same course. I impressed upon them the importance of tenacity, self belief and not being afraid to share your work with others! Also despite the wonder of social media I chose to tell them that there is absolutely no substitute for ‘face-to-face’ encounters. One good meeting in person can be worth 1000 fleeting emails!

I real honour to be invited back to Futureworks (http://futureworks.ac.uk) by course leaders Pete Jenkinson and Craig Burgess, who set me on this path in the first place and have been nothing but an immense support ever since. Not many of us get the opportunity to do what we love for a living let alone stand up and talk about it to others who share the same passion. A ray of sunshine in Manchester …rare as hens teeth!:)” – Ben Cozens.
