The rise and rise of the indie game
What a fantastic path the indie game can take. This just shows what a simple idea can achieve and how indie developers aren’t intimidated by AAA titles. Rocketlegue has boosted to the top of many games charts surpassing sales of big brother AAA titles and proving what’s on the horizon for all those indie game developers out there. There are even official championships happening for the game all over the world. Join Psyonix design director Corey Davis in this 2016 talk as he discusses examples of how the Rocket League team avoided screwing up what evolved into a simple, but deep, experience by maintaining focus and exercising design restraint. Learn about how the team decided to focus on its single ‘car soccer’ game mode, expanded a niche hardcore game into a widely popular sequel, and made other small but critical decisions along the way using these principles.”
Fancy taking part in the league? Head on over to steam. You never know, if we can get enough students playing this at Futureworks then a Rocket League competition of our own might happen.
