The Sci-Fi London 48 Hour Film Challenge…Complete!
This weekend a group of Futureworks students and alumni took part in the Sci-Fi London 48 Hour Film Challenge, led by tutors Andrew McKee and Tom Bohan. The competition requires you to write, shoot and complete a film in 48 hours after receiving a Title, Prop and Line of dialogue as jumping off point at 11am on Saturday.
The team spent 3 hours writing the script at the Futureworks Studios in MediaCity and were then joined by 2 actors, Vin Hawke and Emma O’Brien. They headed to a secluded spot just north of Bolton on one of hottest days of the year so far and found all of their locations within a few miles of each other. Graduate Sarah Strachan took the reins as DOP, shooting on her Blackmagic URSA mini.
After several exterior scenes, the sun began to set so the team set up for their final scene around a campfire deep in the wood, combining natural light from the fire with battery powered LED light. The team wrapped by 10pm and went home to sleep it off. Post-production commenced on Sunday morning, with the edit being done in Avid Media Composer, the grade in DaVinci Resolve Studio and the sound mix in Futureworks’ D-Control ProTools Studio. Final tweaks were made right down to the wire on Monday morning, with VFX, Grade and Sound Design all being finessed until final submission at 1pm on Monday.
Massive congrats to all involved in this intense shoot, your combined skills are wonderful to see and we wish you all the best of luck with this competition.
